Healing/Practitioner Background
Maaike de Haan is an art therapist and holistic practitioner with a foundation in energy medicine and a teaching background in higher education, who has devoted her life to deeply exploring, studying and working within the Healing Arts.
Maaike has been working with students, women, children, teenagers and their families through the medium of play, creative expression and visual arts, in educational [see ‘Teaching Experience’], care/support work and therapeutic settings for over 20 years combined.
A qualified art psychotherapist for over 15 years, she has travelled, worked and studied abroad for over 11 years gathering different additional skills, tools and techniques that are currently collated into her unique offerings. Maaike weaves a fusion of modalities, anchoring her natural intuitive, multidimensional and empathic gifts in Western psychotherapeutic training as well as initiations into ancient wisdom and energy medicine lineages, resulting in a grounded, holistic and trauma-informed approach.
Maaike has worked with many people from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life in a myriad of mental healthcare settings in the Netherlands and the UK, incl. child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatric care, youthwork, (young) adults with complex behavioural issues and/ or [psychiatric] diagnoses like AD[H]D, Autism spectrum, Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, attachment and other [personality] disorders as well as trauma.
In 2014 Maaike became more consciously aware of her natural abilities to energetically clear through the body, something she in retrospect could trace back to experiences in early childhood and adolescence. It wasn’t until after entering into an intensive Multidimensional Mentoring programme with her main teacher Padma Khandro Victoria Sinclair in 2019, that she learned to deeper understand and work with this.
Maaike is an empath and her clearings are profound, especially on the womb area. She now works with energetic clearing professionally in a variety of ways, including Quantum Transfiguration. She works with Tobacco, resins and different smoke clearing techniques and specialises in deep energetic clearings for people and spaces.
Between 2015 and 2022 Maaike’s main focus was on developing her skills within traditional hand poke tattooing and modern machine tattooing, while also getting initiated into Usui Reiki and later Sekhem energy healing, up to Master/ Teacher levels.
In the later part of that period Maaike developed TTTT©; Transpersonal Trauma-informed Tattoo Therapy. Ceremonial therapeutic tattooing in a multidimensionally safe and sacred space, providing people with permanent medicine and personal markings to assist and support them on their journey.
Maaike has become known in certain circles in the EU and UK for holding safe and transformational space for people with complex trauma histories and diagnoses like DID, who wish to reclaim their [body] sovereignty through the medium of tattooing.
Maaike became an official collaborator with the S.C.U.F.F. charity in 2021, which offers small financial grants to low-income people in the North-West of the UK, who wish to have their self harm scars covered with tattoos.
In collaboration with Padma Khandro Victoria Sinclair and the Lotus Consciousness platform [2020], DharmaSTARS [2021 onwards] and individually, Maaike has [co-]hosted ceremonial tattooing events in England, Wales, France, Scotland, the Netherlands, Mexico and Thailand.
Maaike has retired from full time tattooing in 2023 to focus on her work with DharmaSTARS and stepping up in her duties as a multidimensional therapist and spaceholder. At this time Maaike will only consider ceremonial/ therapeutic tattooing work in very special circumstances, when the signs are there to do so.
Between 2015 and 2022 Maaike assisted with holding space at several Women’s Circles, Womb work gatherings and Cacao ceremonies across the UK, incl. The Women of the World [WOW] festival in Bradford in 2018.
Maaike has been working with the Quantum Transfiguration© modality since 2019, and is a Quantum Transfiguration Level 2 practitioner for the DharmaSTARS platform. In 2022 she has brought through Quantum Art Therapy© as a new modality, together with Padma Khandro Victoria Sinclair.
As part of ongoing work and studies with Victoria Padma Khandro, Maaike has participated in earthkeeping and earth grid work at sacred sites across the UK, Mexico, Thailand and mainland Europe since 2019.
In 2023 Maaike supported Victoria Padma Khandro in Glastonbury [UK] assisting tribal activities and weavings with Toltec elders from Mexico, Irish wisdom keepers and the druids in Glastonbury, UK. As part of these activities, Maaike was holding space at the Fireside Stories in The Common area of Glastonbury Festival. Here, she was [amongst other tasks] present to facilitate smoke cleansing and energetic clearing of participants, space and team at certain times, as well as energetically clearing the area where the ‘Breath & Bass’ event took place; preparing the area to be a healing space after having been a nighttime raving area. Maaike was also part of the team that assisted the energetic clearings for participants during the B&B event.
Maaike currently works as a resident art therapist in a multi-disciplinary team at ‘Het Reizende Koffertje’ [‘The Travelling Suitcase’] a specialised Creative Arts Therapies and Child- and Youth Care practice in the North of the Netherlands. She works with children, teenagers and adults.
Maaike is co-founder of the Dharma Sekhem Temple Arts and Rejuvenation School [DharmaSTARS – 2021], course contributor and senior practitioner for the platform, working internationally online and in-person. Here, she offers [Quantum] Art Therapy, Sekhem and quantum healing sessions, workshops, deep energetic clearings and Sekhem Level 1 and 2 initiations.
Maaike is a registered Art Therapist [AThR] and member of the following professional bodies:
NVBT – Dutch Association of Art Therapy
and the FVB – Dutch Federation of Expressive Arts Therapies
Maaike has a personal practice involving pranayama, kundalini yoga and intuitive art making.
She is a student of Khentrul Rinpoche and the Dzokden organisation.
Teaching Experience
Maaike took her first steps into teaching at age 12, by accepting a weekly voluntary peer to peer French language tutoring position during the first few years of highschool. Years later, during her Art Therapy qualification, she assisted with the revision of several modules and module books for the final year of the course.
After graduating there herself, Maaike was offered a teaching position at the department of Art Therapy and Social Work of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden [NL] where she eventually worked for 4,5 years [2006-2011].
During this time she taught first and second year Art Therapy students and up to third year Social Work students. Her subjects included: visual arts classes and the therapeutic application of the medium, the analysis of children’s drawings, therapeutic communication and interview techniques and the practical module on Child- and Adolescent Psychiatry. She was also working as a tutor [Project-based Learning], supervisor [year 2], project supervisor, mentor and study coach/ learning process facilitator. At regular intervals during both courses Maaike would be responsible for assessing students on their practitioner conduct, ethics and their overall professional development.
In addition to this, she was deeply involved in the selection process and assessments of all incoming student applications for the Art Therapy course. Maaike also trained and worked as an assessment actor during this period, portraying clients of all ages with a variety of diagnoses.
Since co-founding DharmaSTARS in 2021, Maaike has gladly stepped back into a teaching role by contributing to several courses on the platform, with teachings on: professional practitioner conduct, ethics and spaceholding, contemporary Tribal Law, DSM IV diagnoses, Inner Child work, divination and symbolism in art, dreams and daily life.
So far Maaike’s contributions can be found in the following courses/ immersions: the Ethics Bridge Course, Trauma-informed Modalities, Divination, Spaceholding, Temple Arts and Serpents of Transformation. Maaike also contributed a video on creative expression and self enquiry/ -reflection for the Lotus Awakening programme in 2020. Since her Sekhem Master/ Teacher initiation in 2022, Maaike has been involved in co-hosting DharmaSTARS’ Sekhem Mystery School retreat in Glen Lyon, Scotland. Supporting the Level 1 and 2 initiations and practical teachings.
Maaike is passionate about [co-]creating potent spaces for the conveyance of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration to budding practitioners and therapists. She’s currently involved with the Quantum Transfiguration Level 1 and 2 training to assist students in coming to grips with practitioner conduct basics.
